Guardiola waits as Barcelona consider Rijkaard axe

DiarioSport says Barca directors will immediately react if Rijkaard's team fails tomorrow night after Saturday's humiliation against Real Betis.

Barcelona B coach Pep Guardiola has already been tapped on the shoulder and told to be prepared in the event Rijkaard is dismissed. With only eight games left this season, Barca president Joan Laporta will name Guardiola as caretaker coach - should Schalke triumph.

Meanwhile, Guardiola's former Barca teammate Luis Enrique is being lined up for a return to the club next season. Enrique is currently in the Sahara desert competing in a marathon and is on the agenda for Barca's board as they consider an overhaul of their current coaching staff.
